Arcadia follows the parallel—and eventually interweaving—stories of two camps occupying one aristocratic home in Derbyshire, England. In 1809, a prodigal preteen yearns to write a formula to predict the future amongst her charismatic tutor’s sexual escapades. In 1992, a group of academics bicker and dance over the events on the periphery of the first timeline, breaking each other’s hearts in the process. Incredibly quick, expansive, and hilarious, this play asks its audience to investigate how we decide what matters. After a year of multidisciplinary performance research, collaborative lectures, and ensemble building, this project’s performances took place both out and indoors with original piano underscoring, fire, and a creative team made up entirely of undergraduate students.
