Director: Lila Marooney

Produced by Haley Groth and Lipstick Theatre Company at Northwestern University

I have often, in explanations to friends, likened Outdoor Bird to Inside Out if it had been set inside the mind of a writer. Swaddled and confronted by the characters she cannot seem to stop writing, Protagonist must investigate why exactly she has designed her companions as they are, and what their relationships—both with one another and herself—reveal about her path forward. This play sits with the very human habit of self-projection through irreverent, absurdist, and bitingly vulnerable language. This production was the first of this play to be staged in person, and I found great joy in collaborating with the playwright, Megan Rivkin, to help bring their words into the third dimension.
